MMOG Nation - Face the Nation: Guild Wars 2

gw209_small_2.jpg

MMOG Nation’s weekly feature Face the Nation has an interview with Mike O’Brien and Jeff Strain, co-founders of Arena.net, on Guild Wars 2. O’Brien and Strain discuss the reasons behind the sequel, what is in store for Guild Wars PvP, and the secret to Guild War’s success.

According to Strain, Eye of the North is not only the “spiritual successor” to the original Guild Wars, but the lead in to Guild Wars 2. Guild Wars 2 will see profound changes that would not be backwards compatible. There are plans for a persistent world, new races and many levels. Movement mechanics will also be affected so that players can experience ‘joy of movement’, such as running and jumping.  There will be dungeons available and new reasons to revisit old familiar places in Tyria.

In Guild Wars 2 we’re actually planning on having two really fundamentally different types of competition. One is the same balance/structured e-sport kind of competition we have today. Another on is just the ‘get out there and fight’ kind of game.

Players will be able to participate without having to become a PvP expert and join an elite PvP guild to get in on the action.

Check out the full article on MMOG Nation for a very detailed look at what Guild Wars 2 has in store for players.
